Zimbabwe holds the world’s 2nd largest elephant population, with over 60,000 individuals. They are most abundant along the Zambezi.
While lion, leopard, buffalo, and elephant are widespread, the rhino is rare and primarily found in protected sanctuaries.
Zimbabwe is home to a formidable concentration of apex predators, ranging from the famous “standing” lions and elusive leopards of the Zambezi Valley to some of Africa’s most successful hunting packs of endangered Painted Wolves (African Wild Dogs).
